The department's distinguished activities and tasks include:
- Daily rounds in each department by a surgical supervisor, along with a weekly joint round by physicians from each department to report cases and develop the weekly schedule.
- A joint surgical session every Wednesday morning includes the presentation and discussion of a clinical case, along with a theoretical study on the presented topic, in conjunction with the Pathological Anatomy and Radiology Departments. A complication session is held on the last Wednesday of each month. Graduate students are provided with scientific and practical training (assistance and guidance in operations). - Providing lectures and clinical lessons to medical students (both in the classrooms and in the specialty departments (fourth, fifth, and sixth years), with students assigned to their respective internships and supervision.
- Supervising and discussing master's theses for postgraduate studies in private classrooms, at the hospital, or in Al-Basel Auditorium, and participating in the discussion of theses.
- Participating in Syrian Board exams (committees).
- Providing clinical lessons during the academic year for both sixth-year surgical students and fifth- and fourth-year students in the classrooms, with faculty members supervising some sixth-year students' theses.
- A weekly scientific lecture for postgraduate students.
- Providing consultations for internal and surgical departments.
- Scientific sessions twice a week, including a journal club.
- Specialized surgical procedures, including laparoscopic surgery (obesity, pancreas, spleen, adrenal), liver resection, and liver transplantation.
